Day 9
Easy morning paddle in
protected waters to discover Byzantine
ruins hidden on nearby islands. Kayak past cliff tombs, paddle
to a submerged Lycian tomb from 6th century BCE (Put your head
inside for a look if you like!) After lunch, visit the quaint
village of Simena. Drink sage tea and enjoy traditional Turkish
hospitality at a village home. Later we walk up to the medieval
castle and take an optional one-hour hike through the farms.
Our gulet will be waiting in Gökkaya Bay where we'll overnight.
Day 10
Paddle for two hours around
the bay and visit a large sea cave. After a swim break, have
lunch and cruise to the old Roman port of Andriake where we visit
the ancient site of Myra and the Lycian royal tombs. The Lycians
were rulers of this land around the 6th century BCE and were
strong, independent defenders of their territory. They carved
elaborate tombs into limestone cliffs and decorated them with
intricate architectural details. We'll also visit St. Nicholas's
church and view exquisite mosaic floors before we cruise to our
overnight anchorage at Finike.
"It
was the best of both world's. The adventure of sea kayaking by
day then relaxing on the boat at night. The Turkish cuisine was
amazing, so fresh and healthy, we felt like Ottoman Sultans.
Good food, good friends, great memories. Thank you for spoiling
us!" - Abigail, Turkish Delight Sea Kayaking Trip, June
